Service Assistant

Job Status: Student Employee Part-Time
Job Location: Eastern Illinois University Residence Hall Front Desk
Pay Scale: Minimum Wage
Reports to: Associate Resident Director/Complex Director (Service Assistant Supervisor)

Job Description
A Service Assistant is the customer service front line employee for Eastern Illinois University’s on campus living. It is the calling of the Service Assistant to provide superior customer service to our residents, fellow students and guests, while upholding the mission and values of University Housing and Dining Services and Eastern Illinois University.

Specific Job Functions
1. Troubleshoot with residents with various issues and serve as a campus resource by making residents aware of University Housing & Dining updates and events on the university calendar
2. Sort U.S. mail and lift/pull packages for building residents
3. Track and distribute student keys in lockout situations by providing resident with 15 minute loaner key
4. Provide and explain administrative paperwork for building operations
  Assists the ARD and CD with administrative responsibilities for the building/complex
5. Periodically audit and inventory front desk materials
6. Track and distribute various amenities for student use
7. Answer phones and troubleshoot with various situations
8. Maintain a team atmosphere within the particular service assistant staff
9. Assist with the submission of work orders
10. Serve as a recruiter by providing building tours to potential students and visitors during open
  house events
11. Assist professional staff with package audits and key audits (opening shift, 4:00pm, and closing shift)
12. Post approved fliers in building common areas and keep public posting bulletin board up to date
13. Attend monthly scheduling meetings (led by ARD/CD staff)
14. Name tags will be provided and must be worn during all shifts
15. Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
1. Minimum GPA of 2.25
2. Previous customer service experience preferred
3. Basic computer operations
4. Positive attitude with team orientation
5. Must be a resident in the community where employed
6. Must be available to attend training prior to the start of the academic year
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SERVICE ASSISTANT POSITION:
□Must have and maintain a 2.25 or higher Cumulative Grade Point Average
□Must be a Service Assistant of the hall/area in which you reside
□Must be able to work during the week and weekends
□Must possess strong customer service, interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills
□Must be able to work the entire 2025-2026 school year
□Must be available for all Service Assistant Training (August 14-17, 2025)
□Must be in good judicial standing with the University
□Must be a full time EIU student

*If your current Grade Point Average is not 2.25, your application will not be considered for hire. Extenuating circumstances must be submitted in writing for further consideration by the Office of University Housing & Dining Leadership Team.
